Recovering bioluminescent source in Gaussians
نویسندگان
چکیده
Parameterizing the bioluminescent source globally in Gaussians provides several advantages over voxel representation in bioluminescence tomography. It is mathematically unique to recover Gaussians [3] and practically sufficient to approximate various shapes by Gaussians in diffusive medium. The computational burden is significantly reduced since much fewer unknowns are required. Besides, there are physiological evidences that the source can be modeled by Gaussians. The simulations show that the proposed model and algorithm significantly improves accuracy and stability in the presence of Gaussian or nonGaussian sources, noisy data or the optical background mismatch. It is also validated through in vivo experimental data. 2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (100.3190) Inverse problems; (110.6960) Tomography; (170.3010) Image reconstruction techniques; (170.6280) Spectroscopy, fluorescence and luminescence.

متن کاملBioluminescence in a Complex Coastal Environment: 2. Prediction of Bioluminescent Source Depth From Spectral Water-leaving Radiance
[1] Many bioluminescence observations are made from the ocean’s surface. However, the depth of the bioluminescent source is difficult to estimate on the basis of surface observations alone, given the variable light attenuation of unknown concentrations of water column constituents such as phytoplankton, colored dissolved organic matter, and detritus. Part 1 of this paper showed that bioluminesc...
متن کاملA born-type approximation method for bioluminescence tomography.
In this paper, we present a Born-type approximation method for bioluminescence tomography (BLT), which is to reconstruct an internal bioluminescent source from the measured bioluminescent signal on the external surface of a small animal. Based on the diffusion approximation for the photon propagation in biological tissue, this BLT method utilizes the Green function to establish a linear relatio...
متن کاملWarped Mixtures for Nonparametric Cluster Shapes
A mixture of Gaussians fit to a single curved or heavy-tailed cluster will report that the data contains many clusters. To produce more appropriate clusterings, we introduce a model which warps a latent mixture of Gaussians to produce nonparametric cluster shapes. The possibly low-dimensional latent mixture model allows us to summarize the properties of the high-dimensional clusters (or density...

BACKGROUND The bioluminescent enzyme firefly luciferase (Luc) or variants of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in transformed cells can be effectively used to reveal molecular and cellular features of neoplasia in vivo. Tumor cell growth and regression in response to various therapies can be evaluated by using bioluminescent imaging. In bioluminescent imaging, light propagates in highly scatterin...
